The Conservative Leadership Mississippi Needs:

With the 2027 election cycle already stirring political discussions across Mississippi, one question looms large: what kind of leadership do we need next? As names are whispered and rumors begin to swirl about who might run for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, it's critical to move past personalities and popularity, and ask: what kind of leaders does Mississippi truly need?

The answer is clear—we need principled conservatives who are committed to lowering taxes, protecting liberty, reducing government overreach, and defending Mississippi values. It’s about bold, unapologetic conservatism that puts people first and politics last.

1. Mississippi Needs a Tax-Cutting Governor

The people of Mississippi are not looking for another career politician who will quietly manage the status quo. We need a Governor who will take a chainsaw to bloated budgets, not just trim around the edges. Mississippi families are tired of seeing their hard-earned dollars disappear into a bureaucracy that’s out of touch with everyday struggles.

Our next Governor must be someone who understands that every dollar the government takes is a dollar that can’t be used to build a small business, save for college, or put food on the table. The income tax must be phased out once and for all. Conservative states have proven it’s possible. Mississippi must follow suit.

Lowering taxes is not just a campaign slogan—it’s a promise to respect the work of the people. It’s also the most effective way to attract business, grow jobs, and keep our young people here at home instead of watching them move to more tax-friendly states.

2. A Lieutenant Governor Who’s More Than a Bureaucrat

While the Governor often receives the spotlight, the Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi plays a crucial role as President of the Senate. This position holds enormous power in shaping legislation, setting priorities, and ensuring that the Senate aligns with the people—not special interests or lobbyists.

We don’t need a Lieutenant Governor who’s content being a quiet administrator. We need someone willing to fight, to work behind the scenes and in front of the cameras to promote real conservative policies—lower taxes, school choice, medical freedom, and pro-life protections.

The next Lieutenant Governor must be someone with a backbone of steel, who isn’t afraid to call out waste, challenge bad bills, and hold the line against the drift toward big-government "solutions." Mississippi needs a leader in that office who will partner with the Governor to make conservative change happen, not quietly oppose reform with bureaucratic stall tactics.

3. Real Conservative Reform—Not Talk, Action

We’ve all heard politicians talk about conservative values. The people of Mississippi are tired of the talk. They want actionOur current Governor has done a great job setting this tone. We’ve seen significant progress made on cutting taxes, expanding educational opportunity, protecting the unborn, and prioritizing fiscal responsibility. The groundwork has been laid—but we must keep moving forward.

Now is not the time to change course. The next Governor and Lieutenant Governor must pick up the baton and run even faster down this road of reform.

We need leaders who will:

  • Eliminate the state income tax

  • Cut fraud, waste, abuse and unnecessary spending

  • Promote school choice and education freedom

  • Protect parental rights

  • Defend religious liberty

  • Stand up to federal overreach

  • Secure our elections

  • Support law enforcement and fight crime

Our next Governor and Lieutenant Governor must govern the same way they campaign. And that means surrounding themselves with like-minded conservatives who are committed to enacting meaningful change—not maintaining political comfort zones.

4. A Vision Bigger Than Government

The next generation of Mississippi leadership must understand a critical truth: the government is not the engine of opportunity—people are.

The best way to build a thriving Mississippi is to unleash the creativity, strength, and values of the people, not expand the reach of state agencies. That means reducing regulations, streamlining processes for entrepreneurs, investing in infrastructure without pork, and protecting the rights of small business owners.

We need a Governor and Lieutenant Governor who will talk less about what the government can do for people and more about what the people can do when government gets out of the way.

5. Mississippi First—Not Washington First

The people of Mississippi are fed up with national politics seeping into our state. Our leaders must remember that we answer to Mississippi voters, not Washington elites.

Thankfully, President Donald J. Trump is back in the White House, bringing America-first leadership to Washington once again. But that doesn’t mean state leaders can sit back and relax. We still need a Governor and Lieutenant Governor willing to stand with the President when he pushes conservative reforms—and also willing to stand firm when D.C. politics try to derail state sovereignty.

From Second Amendment protections to resisting harmful federal regulations that hurt our farmers and energy sector, Mississippi needs leaders who are unapologetically aligned with conservative federal leadership while keeping Mississippi in the driver’s seat.

6. Character Still Matters

Conservatism isn’t just a policy position—it’s a worldview. Mississippi needs leaders with deep moral conviction, who believe in faith, family, and freedom. People with integrity, honesty, and a willingness to stand alone if necessary.

Our state has a long tradition of Christian values. The next Governor and Lieutenant Governor must not be afraid to speak boldly about those values, to defend life, uphold marriage, and protect the rights of churches, ministries, and Christian schools.

As Mississippi moves forward, we don’t just need political conservatives—we need cultural conservatives who understand what’s at stake in this generation.

7. The Time Is Now

The 2027 election may feel far away, but the time for preparation is now. Conservatives must not be caught off guard. We need to start identifying, supporting, and promoting leaders who actually believe in liberty, not just use the word during campaigns.

Mississippi has all the ingredients to become a national model of conservative governance—but it will require courageous leadership. Leadership that is more concerned with doing what’s right than pleasing political donors or media elites. The next Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi must be more than figureheads. They must be true conservative reformers with a heart for the people, a commitment to lowering taxes, and a spine strong enough to resist the pressures of politics. Let the pundits talk about polls and personalities. The people of Mississippi must talk about principles, policies, and priorities.

It’s time for Mississippi to choose leaders who lead, not just campaign.

It’s time to choose conservatives who act, not just talk.

It’s time to choose freedom over bureaucracy, people over politics, and courage over compromise.

Let’s not wait for someone else to do it. Let’s demand it now—and make 2027 the year Mississippi steps boldly into the conservative future it deserves.
